General Butler State Resort Park

General Butler State Resort Park is a 791-acre resort park located in Carrollton, Kentucky, near the confluence of the Kentucky and Ohio rivers. Named after General William O. Butler—a veteran of the War of 1812 and the Mexican–American War—it is recognized as northern Kentucky's first state park.

The park offers a mix of historic culture, outdoor recreation, and lodging:

  • Accommodations: Includes a 53-room resort lodge (featuring an oversized stone fireplace and full-service dining), 24 private cottages, and a 111-site campground with full hookups.
  • Outdoor Recreation: Home to the 30-acre Butler Lake, which supports non-motorized boating (canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats) and fishing for bass, bluegill, and catfish. Over 11 miles of trails are available for hiking and mountain biking, including the 4.5-mile Fossil Trail that leads up to Stone Overlook—the highest point in Carroll County.

  • Amenities: Features an 18-hole miniature golf course, an 18-hole semi-pro disc golf course, a swimming pool, and scenic overlooks offering views of the surrounding river valleys.

  • History: Preserves the 1859 Greek Revival-style Butler-Turpin State Historic House, an antebellum family home operated as a historic museum with original furniture and military artifacts.
